I have very old original heart of pine floors......what tone of furniture would be best? Thank You?

I am not sure if you meant to say style of furniture. Amish or American style. A table with tapered legs, a trestle, a pedestal base or farmhouse will work in stains (tone) shown in the link below. Paint colors were typically earth colors, such as green, brown or ocher.

What type of wood/ finish is this dining table?

Ican't see your photo. If there is no grain in the top it is probably veneered over particle board. If it was wood it would show on the bottom of the table underneath. Again if there is no wood grain but just speckled it is particle board under the veneer. If the veneer is cracked it is not much good for anything

If it has straight legs it is modern furniture and turned legs is traditional. If you bought it new 15 years ago those would be your 2 likely choices

repairing a wood table leg?

Maybe the draw bolts are pulling out of the legs. Take everything apart and see if they are loose. Try to tighten them in. If they still are loose, remove them and put a couple tooth picks along with some glue in the holes. Now screw the bolts back in. Let dry and re-assemble the table.

Can I apply veneer to an antique table top?

Yes you can fix this with the veneer as you suggest. My thinking would be to scrap the old plywood and buy a new sheet cut to fit the same shape and dimensions as the old one. That way you'll have a "clean", flat, even and stable surface for gluing down the veneer as opposed to a possible "hornets nest" of defects with the other top.

If you're not comfortable working with veneers I'd suggest finding a local furniture maker / cabinet shop to help you out.

Or another option would be to have the tabletop rebuilt using solid cherry to match the existing base. This is of course MUCH more expensive.

What it boils down to is personal choice: Veneer vs. Solid Wood.

Making a Desk, legs - trestle shaped?

I would set them back enough to leave an inch or inch and a quarter overhang. It will look balanced, like store bought tables and desks. If you go flush to the edge, it will look more homemade, I think.

If it's of use, I used wallpaper pasting tables bought from a DIY stores. Make great fold away tables, and take up hardly any space. I have not idea how much they cost though.

How would I go about turning a tree in to a tabletop?

If the lumber mill will saw the tree for you, see if they'll dry the boards as well. If not, you will need a cool, dry place to store the planks for a few years(!) - a barn or shed is ideal - and be aware, the planks will warp a bit while they're being seasoned, and will need to be milled flat at the end of it. The wikipedia page on wood drying is insanely thorough, and interesting reading from beginning to end - but here's the section on air drying. (Entire books have been written on the subject of seasoning lumber. They may be worthwhile if you're serious about the endeavor.)
