A Texas Homeowners Guide to Slab Leak Detection Repair
A Texas Homeowners Guide to Slab Leak Detection Repair
A slab leak is essentially a foundation leak. When the pipes running under the home and through the foundation are compromised, they leak water into and under the slab itself. There are two types of slab leak: potable water leaks and sewer/drain leaks. What are the signs of a slab leak? There are a few noticeable symptoms of a slab leak, including the continuous sound of running water, a hot spot on the floor or cracks in the walls or flooring. Other signs, such as mildew under the carpet or a higher water bill, may be indications of a slab leak or another plumbing problem. Consequences such as discoloration of the tile and carpet, or bad smells, are often discovered once the leak has already affected the foundation. As water accumulates under the house, it can damage your foundation. The longer you wait to detect and repair a slab leak, the more harm is done. In a sewer slab leak or a drain slab leak, the symptoms are often less obvious, but potentially more dangerous. Sewer/drain leaks may go unnoticed for a longer period of time, causing severe damage. In fact, sewer and drain leaks under the home account for a high percentage of foundation issues - far more than fresh water (potable) leaks. As the destruction spreads, you will see more expensive repairs, and eventually health hazards like mold and mildew. There are many possible causes of a slab leak, including roots under the house, corrosion, and leaking or broken pipes. When you call the AAA AUGER plumbers for slab leak detection, we will find the cause of your water leak as well. When it comes to fixing the leak, our professional plumbers may choose to penetrate the slab for spot repair or a full slab leak repair. However, this method is highly invasive and expensive. Our plumbers recommend eliminating the defective line instead. This method reroutes the water to avoid the problem pipe, giving you more value for your buck and a long-term solution. If you are in need of slab leak detection or slab leak repair, call 877.999.1979 for an appointment with the AAA AUGER 24 hour emergency plumbers.1. I have a cement slab and need a shed/workroom? Table Runners for Round Tables: Find the Right Table Runner
Do I have to use a runner with a tablecloth? Naturally, you do not have to use a tablecloth with a table runner. If you like the idea of a tablecloth but happen to use the kitchen table in other ways (like for kids doing their homework), then a runner offers a touch of practical beauty. On the other hand, you might have a gorgeous antique dining table or farmhouse table you love to show off. Previous to SQL Server 2012 the ADD COLUMN NOT NULL DEFAULT ... is an offline operation that has to run an update and populate each row with the new default value of the newly added column. In SQL Server 2012, the operation is much faster, see Online non-NULL with values column add in SQL Server 11 as it only updates the metadata of the table and does not actually update any rows.Your ALTER TABLE is most likely slow because of the update. Remember, since that is a single transaction, a huge log will be generated and your log is likely growing now and being constantly zero-ed out as it expands. However, it might also be slow because of ordinary contention: the statement may not be able to acquire the SCH-M lock on the table. Looking at sys.dm_exec_requests should show if this is the case, the wait_type and wait_resource columns would indicate if the ALTER statement is blocked or is making progressSetting Up Python Script tool ESRI arcpy to download files from tableAs you have a map layer in your map document, you need to work not on the .lyr file, but instead on the Layer object. Know About Table Runner
An overview of table runnerAhrweiler BC is a German football club from the city of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, Rheinland-Pfalz. The club was established in January 1920 as Fußballverein Ahrweiler and adopted the name Ahrweiler Ballspiel-Club on 10 March 1925.DIY Table Runner Created with Real Fall LeavesFreshly fallen autumn leaves are some of the season's most colorful sights. So why not bring some of that beauty indoors with this table runner? Made from real leaves, it's an eco-friendly way to use a natural resource that would otherwise end up in the trash bin. And what a lovely way to accent your fall table. Step 1: Cut Stems from Leaves You will need about 30 leaves for every foot of table runner. This table runner was just over three feet and used about 100 leaves. Cut the stems from the leaves with scissors and discard them. Step 2: Clean the Leaves Wipe the leaves with damp paper towels to remove dust and dirt. Step 3: Flatten the Leaves Place the leaves between the pages of thick books like a dictionary. Within each book, position 5 to 6 leaves about every 50 pages. You will need several books to accommodate all your leaves. (Good thing I collect dictionaries.) Stack them up, and place a heavy object on top of them. Let the leaves dry within the books for at least 48 hours. Step 4: Cut a Strip of Burlap Decide how long you want your table runner, and cut a 3-inch wide strip of burlap to the desired length. The burlap will act as a foundation for the leaves, making the table runner more durable and allowing you to move the runner around without breaking the leaves. You can use another type of fabric, but burlap looks good underneath the leaves, especially if there are openings that reveal the burlap underneath. Step 5: Remove Leaves from Books After at least 48 hours, check to see if the leaves are flat and dry, and remove them from all the books. Step 6: Glue Leaves onto the Burlap Apply craft glue to the back of the leaves, and position them on the burlap.Keep overlapping the leaves until the burlap is covered. Step 7: Widen the Leaf Covering To make the table runner wider, glue leaves on top of the ones that are covering the burlap. For a 10-inch wide runner, extend two to three leaves past the burlap edge. Step 8: Display on Your Table Place the table runner along the center of your table, and accessorize with other fall elements. Let the autumn entertaining season begin! How to Make a Table RunnerHow to Make a Table Runner. Table runners can add a touch of elegance to your table setting. Make placemats, a tablecloth and napkins to match and give the set as a gift. Step 1 Choose a cotton or cotton-polyester blend fabric in the color or print of your choice. For one 70-inch by 28-inch table runner, you will need 2¼ yards of 45-inch wide fabric. Choose the same amount of fabric in a lighter weight for the backing of your table runner. Step 2 Prewash fabric and press with an iron. Step 3 Use a fabric-cutting board, yardstick, and fabric-marking pen to measure out a length of fabric that is 71 inches by 29 inches. Before marking, fold the fabric in half so that the short ends meet; this will make it easier to measure and mark it. Step 4 Repeat Step 3 for the backing fabric. Step 5 Make a mark at the center of each short edge of fabric with a fabric-marking pen. Measure 5 inches down from the top of each short end along both edges, and mark these points. Use a yardstick to draw lines that connect the center points to each edge and cut along these lines. Step 6 Repeat Step 5 for the backing fabric. You will now have two pieces of fabric that are pointed at the ends. Step 7 Press each raw fabric edge under ½ inch toward wrong side of fabric. Use the steam setting on your iron to make sharp fabric edges and to help ensure that pressed edges stay in place. Step 8 Pin table runner front to backing piece, wrong sides together. Make sure that pressed edges match up evenly and that fabric pieces are securely pinned together along the edges and center. Pins should be at right angles to fabric edges at 1½-inch intervals. Step 9 Use a sewing machine to stitch ½ inch from the edges of the table runner. Stitch on all four sides. When you reach a corner or point, lift presser foot of sewing machine and swivel fabric so that your stitching line remains straight. Keep needle inserted in fabric as you reposition. Step 10 Stitch around fabric edges once again, this time only 1/8 inch from fabric edge. Step 11 Sew one small button onto each end of your table runner. Buttons should be placed about 1½ inches from the points on the table runner back. Use these buttons to hang tassels. Remove tassels when runner is laundered.

Ramaphosas China Visit Culminates in Investment, Coal Deals Worth Billions
President Cyril Ramaphosa’s state visit in China this week has yielded promising results following the signing of several cooperation agreements between the two countries on Sunday in Beijing, including a $1.1 billion trade investment deal with the Bank of a China. The Bank of China intended to work with South Africa’s department of trade and industry in a special economic zones programme that would become “an engine for rapid investment attraction into South Africa”.Another $90 million would go into the production of hard coking coal and thermal coal through an open cast mining project in Makhado in Limpopo in the deal between Baobab Mining and the Exploration and China Railway International Group around the Soutpansberg coalfields area. With the estimated resource at 344.8 million tonnes over a 46-year lifespan, the Makhado project would be “the only producer of hard coking coal in South Africa, which is a vital input into the steel-making industry”.Coking coal is, according to Collins dictionary, a solid-fuel product containing about 80% of carbon and that is used in metallurgy as a reducing agent for converting metal oxides into metalsThe Bank of China wanted “to financially facilitate the investment activities into South Africa, with a particular focus on special economic zones and industrial parks”. This included assistance in capacity and institutional building, facilitation of investments in the infrastructure development space as well as cross-border investment and trade between China and South Africa.“With the memorandum of understanding having been signed, the department of trade and the Bank of China will tighten the implementation plan which will include specific projects, timelines, and institutional arrangements for the implementation,” according to a statement.Other agreements involving the trade department included the national development and reform commission of the People’s Republic of China deal to “promote key projects of cooperation on production capacity” between the two countries. In terms of the agreed implementation framework the two parties identified a list of special economic zones and industrial projects that would receive priority focusing in the areas of Musina and Makhado in Limpopo. This included the construction of supporting infrastructures, investment and financing for coking plants, ferromanganese plants, ferrochromium plants, silico-manganese plants, stainless steel plant, supporting administrative service center, living area service center, highways, and shipping integrated logistics centre over a period of six years.Other investments under the Taiyuan Iron and Steel project would focus on the planning and construction of the South African Energy Metallurgical projects such as mingling in coal, chromium and vanadium, as well as a coal washing plant, captive power plant, ironworks and hot rolling mills.A 4,600 MW coal-fired plant was planned under the Power China International Energy Project, also expected to be a phased construction over six years, while the Tianjie Group refractory plant and cement plant project aimed to invest in the use of coal slag and steel slag (the fused material formed during the smelting or refining of metals) as raw materials for cement plants in half that time.
Carrier for Hep B... What to Do?
Carrier for Hep B... What to Do?
Hepatitis B is a very common infection in Asia. 80% of those infected in adulthood spontaneously clear the virus and become immune. Many will not even have symptoms. People who have vertical transmission of the virus (at birth) frequently become asymptomatic carriers. You can have very high levels of virus with little to no injury to your own liver. You are at risk for liver cancer even in absence of active liver disease. It is recommend you be screened for liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) ever 6 months with a liver ultrasound or CT scan plus a blood test (alpha fetoprotein). As far as your responsibility to others. As with any communicable disease you should take care to avoid transmission as you have done. As far as announcing your disease to others...well this is not necessary and is none of their business. Hope this was helpful1. Can an aircraft carrier launch and land aircraft while stationary? It would be even easier whilst anchored as the pilot would not have to account for the vessel moving compared to his own aircraft4. What is the force carrier for quantum entanglement? There is not any force carrier for quantum entanglement. It is not a force. It is... well, it's hard to describe what it is. I would say it's something that the particles have in them already, but that's not right either, since it implies a hidden variable. Here's a better way to put it: it's a symmetry of the universe. If one is X, then the other is Y, and vice versa, and that's literally all that can be said about it. You are not used to thinking of properties in that kind of superposition, but that's what it "really is" (to the degree that it's anything at all). It requires no communication or force or anything between the two; they both share the superposition. It only seems magical if you insist on treating the superposition as if it were an ordinary state that needed to be pushed into some other state, which it is not . It is a quantum-mechanical thing which is different from your experience and you wo not get anywhere treating it with the same metaphors you are used to
Knowledge About Storey Gymnasium
Knowledge About Storey Gymnasium
Storey Gymnasium, also known as Cheyenne High School Gymnasium, was built in 1950 on the campus of Central High School in Cheyenne, Wyoming, United States. The brick gymnasium was designed by Cheyenne architect Frederic Hutchinson Porter to include additional functions associated with the school's ROTC program, with an armory, rifle range and drill halls in addition to classrooms, shops and music spaces. The contractor was Loren Hancock, who built it at a cost of $646,611.66. It was named for William Storey, a member of the school Board of Trustees. When East High School was built in 1965 the facility was shared between East and Central. The two-story brick building measures about 240 feet (73m) by 180 feet (55m). It features plain surfaces and uninterrupted horizontal lines without ornamentation beyond horizontal brick features in the upper portion. The center section houses a gymnasium illuminated by glass block windows set in a clerestory. It seated 4,500 for basketball when it first opened and is still in use for sporting events, circuses, graduation ceremonies, and other special events.Storey Gymnasium was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 22, 2005.In September of 2016, the gymnasium seating was replaced with all black seats.• Other Related Knowledge of glass blockNotable people of glass blockHelen Duncan (18971956), the last woman to be imprisoned under the 1735 Witchcraft Act, lived in Craigmillar.Filmmaker Bill Douglas was born and raised in nearby Newcraighall. The former Craigmillar Primary School building houses a mural by the painter John Maxwell, who was trained by Fernand Lger and was a fellow student of Marc Chagall in Paris. There is a fine example of 20th century stained glass by Sadie Maclellan in Robin Chapel, in the Thistle Foundation, a housing complex for disabled people in the centre of Craigmillar.Local mother Helen Crummy was instrumental in the founding of the Craigmillar Festival Society in 1962.The noted Conservative politician, Sir Ian Gilmour, was given a life peerage by John Major in 1992, becoming Baron Gilmour of Craigmillar, of Craigmillar in the District of the City of Edinburgh, of which his family were, for several hundred years, the feudal superiors.------Benefits of glass blockAn induction programme is an important process for bringing staff into an organisation. It provides an introduction to the working environment and the set-up of the employee within the organisation. The process will cover the employer and employee rights and the terms requirements for working at the company and pay attention to the health and safety of the new employee. An induction programme is part of an organisations knowledge management process and is intended to enable the new starter to become a useful, integrated member of the team, rather than being "thrown in at the deep end" without understanding how to do their job, or how their role fits in with the rest of the company.Good induction programmes can increase productivity and reduce short-term turnover of staff. These programs can also play a critical role under the socialization to the organization in terms of performance, attitudes and organizational commitment. In addition well designed induction programmes can significantly increase the speed to competency of new employees thus meaning they are more productive in a shorter period of time.------2004 Redfern riot of glass blockOn 14 February 2004, The Block was the scene of 2004 Redfern riots following the death of an Australian Aboriginal boy, who died after he collided with a protruding gutter and was flung into the air and impaled in a 2.5-metre high fence outside a block of units off Phillip Street, Waterloo, possibly whilst being followed by police. Police officers at the scene administered first aid until NSW Ambulance officers arrived. The "Australian First Aid" manual requires the instrument of penetration to remain in place after the injury has occurred, as removal of a penetrating instrument usually causes catastrophic bleeding. The police removed TJ Hickey's body from where it was impaled on the fence before the ambulance arrived, contrary to Australian First Aid accepted practise. Hickey was transported from the scene to the Sydney Children's Hospital in a critical but stable condition. He died with his family by his side on 15 February due to the severity of his wounds.------Description of glass blockThe main block of the house is a two-story rectangle running parallel to the road, with an integral single-story ell extending to the southwest. A timber-frame carriage shed is attached to the ell. As originally built in 1824, it was a typical late Federal/early Greek Revival center hall structure, with rooms on both floors flanking a central hallway. In 1865 the gable roof was altered, adding a cross gable projecting on the front facade. In this gable end there are three sash windows, and a small stained-glass oculus window at the peak. The interior of the house largely reflects decoration and alterations dating to the turn of the 20th century. The two barns stand near each other north of the house. The older of the two barns is the larger one, with original hay lofts; part of its roof supports has been rebuilt using modern construction methods. The smaller barn apparently once stood closer to the house, where an appropriately-size granite foundation remains. A leanto for sheltering farm animals is attached to one side.------Other features of glass blockThe Valley is home to a number of pubs known locally for live music and real ale: Free Trade (at the confluence with the Tyne, with a good view of the bridges upriver), The Tyne Bar, the Cumberland Arms, The Ship Inn, The Tanners, The Kiln, Cobalt Studios and The Cluny.BridgesThree high-level bridges cross the valley in close proximity; these are the Ouseburn railway Viaduct, the Byker Viaduct carrying the Tyne and Wear Metro, and then the Byker road bridge.Hadrian's Wall crossed the Ouseburn just to the south of the Byker road bridge, and is thought to have run through the site of the City Farm. No trace of the wall can now be seen above ground, though an illustrated information board can be seen at the eastern end of a new block of flats on the east side of the river, which were built on the line of the wall.------Tenants and history of glass blockThroughout the 1990s 191 Peachtree was considered Atlanta's premier business address. However, when two of its largest tenants, law firm King & Spalding, and Wachovia moved to Midtown's new 1180 Peachtree and Atlantic Station respectively in 2006, most of the building was left vacant. That same year, Cousins Properties purchased the building from Equity Office Properties, which marked a return to 191 for the company as it helped originally develop the building. Cousins relocated their headquarters to the building, signed a number of small tenants to subdivided space and in January 2008, signed an agreement with Deloitte to extend and expand the consulting firm's current lease from 100,000 to 260,000sqft (9,300 to 24,200m2), bringing the building back to 87 percent occupancy. The building is located on the former site of the Hotel Majestic, which in the early 20th century was one of the city's major hotels.------Projects of glass blockLisson Gallery, Marylebone, London (1990)Sway Centre, Hampshire (1996)The Quay Arts Centre on the Isle of Wight (1998)Red House, Chelsea for Alex Sainsbury (2001)Camden Arts Centre, London (2004)Faith House and Artists Studios, Holton Lee Centre for Disability, Poole Dorset (2002 - 2005)British embassy, Warsaw (2009)The 27m embassy, has earned plaudits "despite being built on a second-choice site, and squeezed by budget constraints caused by the strengthening of the zloty against the pound" includes Belgian marble facing the entrance and a glazed outer faade that "is actually a brilliantly refined blast-screen".Anish Kapoor's house Chelsea, LondonVassal Road HousingFuglsang Art Museum. Writing for The Ringer, Alison Herman calls Hader's performance "flat-out extraordinary" and says the episode "dont shy away from confronting their viewers with the full extent of Barrys corruption."At the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards, Bill Hader was awarded the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance while Liz Sarnoff was nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.------Cultural development of glass blockThe lower Ouseburn Valley had fallen into disuse and dereliction by the mid-twentieth century, but its industrial heritage had left many large buildings which, since the 1970s, have increasingly been utilised as creative workspaces by artists, musicians and performers. From 1996, a development trust (the Ouseburn Trust), in partnership with the local authority, has led the area's regeneration as a cultural hotspot. This has been so successful that Ouseburn is now marketed as a trendy place to live. The area is now a hub for the arts and creative industries, and is home to the Biscuit Factory (open gallery), the Mushroom Works (open first weekend of the month), Testhouse 5 (appointment only), North Grange Glass (stained glass gallery and cafe), 36 Lime Street and Cobalt Studios. The Valley is also the home of Seven Stories, the national centre for children's books. The Ouseburn Trust remains a landlord and developer in the Valley, and seeks to involve people in the heritage and regeneration of the area through its programme of free walks, talks and volunteering activities.------After Worthington of glass blockIn the early 1900s, the Worthington Mansion became home to the Presbyterian Hospital. It was one of several mansions that were acquired by for the hospital. However, by the 1930s the hospital had moved out and the building became home to the Lutheran Home for the Aged. By the 1950s, the home was separated into rental units and called The White House Apartments. During this era, the Order of the Sons of Italy moved into 1238 South 10th Street, which was the original carriage house for the mansion. It has been demolished since then. The neighborhood surrounding the Worthington Mansion has changed dramatically, too. The last of the mansions that once surrounded Bishop Worthington's residence was the Charles Storz home, and it was demolished in 2014. Grace University has bought many of the other regal homes that once filled the blocks and has been demolishing them, too. A local historic preservation organization called Restoration Exchange Omaha has expressed interest in saving the Worthington Mansion from further deterioration, in 2016 began fundraising to contribution to its historically accurate restoration and further preservation efforts.------Best practice of glass blockIn order to fully benefit the company and employee, the induction programme should be planned in advance. The timetable should be prepared, detailing the induction activities for a set period of time (ideally at least a week) for the new employee, including a named member of staff who will be responsible for each activity. This plan should be circulated to everyone involved in the induction process, including the new starter. If possible it should be sent to the new starter in advance, if not co-created with the new starterIt is also considered best practice to assign a buddy to every new starter. If possible this should be a person who the new starter will not be working with directly, but who can undertake some of the tasks on the induction programme, as well as generally make the new employee feel welcome. (For example, by ensuring they are included in any lunchtime social activities.)------Borneo Global Issues Conference of glass blockThe annual ISB Borneo Global Issues Conference is a model United Nations-style (MUN) conference held at the International Conference Centre in Brunei Darussalam.International Keynote Speakers included 2004 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Professor Wangari Maathai; environmentalist Professor David Bellamy (OBE); Animal Planet television presenters Monty Halls and Dr. Alison Cronin; Native American Medicine Man Nathan Chasing Horse; Childs Rights Activist Kate McAlpine; Moni Pizani, Regional Programme Director, UN Women, East and SE Asia Regional Office; Hugh Evans, 2004 Young Australian of the Year, CEO, The Global Poverty Project.ISB BGIC is a student-managed conference focusing on the knowledge of international concerns and current affairs, debating and presentation skills, as well as instilling values of global citizenship In previous years, ISB BGIC has hosted almost 300 students from Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Singapore, England, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Qatar, with the majority of conference delegates from local government schools in Brunei Darussalam.

How to Hook Up a Ps3 to a Monitor?
Make sure you are using the correct HDMI adapter for your monitor. Try navigating through the menu on your monitor (usually buttons on the side) and configure it in the settings for an external device running in High Definition1. Can you replace the treble hook...?Your not an idiot for asking a question, especially a fishing question. Yes use the existing hardware but check it first. Make sure split rings are not open, screws hold tight and not fit loose.2. 12.04 Ubuntu: configuring laptop to hook up to TV using HDMI cable?I have an Asus Zenbook Prime with an Intel HD integrated GPU. My machine has the same issues with video and sound settings not automatically switching when I plug in a TV over HDMI. To resolve the video I can either press the external monitor hotkey (FNF8) to cycle between Laptop only, TV only, Mirrored, and Extended desktop modes. Your laptop may not have this function button so you can also launch the Displays control panel either directly or from the System Settings application. This should identify both of your displays, which you can turn on and off independently or check the Enable Mirroring box to simply mirror you laptop display.Sound over HDMI can be tricky. An HDMI output device may appear in the Sound control panel in System Settings, but on my machine this does not happen. To resolve this, I use PulseAudio Volume Control. You can find this by searching for it in the Ubuntu Software Center. To use it, launch the app and click on the Configuration Tab. There should be a drop-down menu for your sound card labeled Profile, select Digitl Stereo(HDMI) Output from this menu. Once this is done, the Sound control panel should show both the built-in speakers and the HDMI output and you should be able to switch between them as often as you want from there while you are plugged in to the HDMI output. On my laptop it also does not automatically switch back to the speakers, you may need to manually select them in the Sound control panel to go back to analog sound output.3. Tie HOOK to MAIN LINE?!?hang mans noose or bow line4. How did you react to the Sandy Hook shooting?I **** you not, this exactly what I said: "Well, that's sad... anyway, you are doing great, baby. That feels fantastic." Just imagine what that looks like. and yes, that's what was happening.5. How do I hook up a monitor to a laptop?Did you have the laptop turned off when you connected the monitor? Did you fasten it by turning the two knobs on the side of the connector? Is the monitor plugged into an outlet that actually has power to it? After checking all of that, then did you boot it up? Have you tested the monitor on another computer?6. what is the softest yarn to make a baby blanket?..?If you are buying yarn off of the internet and can not see it first, I would recommend Caron Simply Soft. That is what I use the most for baby blankets. It is truly soft and drapes so wonderfully. It can be thrown in the wash and comes out great. The different sizes of hooks just make a tight crocheted fabric or a looser made one. They also depend on what size yarn or thread you are going to use. If you have a very fine yarn or thread, you use a fine hook versus a thick yarn and large hook. On a skein of yarn there will be a picture showing what size crochet hook is recommended for that size yarn and that will give you a good idea of what will work best. But, even with that you still need to do a swatch to make the yarn and hook will work up at the gauge listed on the pattern. For a blanket, scarf or shawl gauge is not as important though since you are not fitting it to a particular size.7. How do I hook up two monitors to a desktop comuter?you need a vga y-cable, my teachers use it at school to split it to their projector. Or if you really want clarity and graphics get a new GPU. But since its a new computer dont open it or you will lose your warranty.
24 VDC Control Using Arduino
24 VDC Control Using Arduino
If the input impedance of the PLC/controller is fairly high, you could get away with pullups and low-side transistors for inputs (to the PLC), and run outputs through a voltage divider. Analog inputs would be a little more complex, but a basic op-amp should work fine for that unless you need high BW signals.I don't know of a shield for this, but if you only need a couple you could get one of the stripboard/breadboard type shields and bang them out.I would like to use a Arduino as "simulator" in a training class. It would connect to an industrial controller that has 24 VDC inputs and outputs. The Arduino program would simulate the IO from a production line (sensor inputs and motor controls for example)Is there a shield which can interface with 24 VDC IO? I know I could use separate relays, but I want to see if there is a better solution.I could use 12 VDC instead of 24, but nothing lower.I am considering the Arduino as cost is factor. How can my son start now to build a portfolio to get into a good art school? He is 15.?Save all of his best work and preserve it well. You can buy a professional portfolio (used to display your work) at a good art supply store. You might just save all of it. Keep a record of shows and displays he has taken part in, including dates, the promoter, etc. If he sells anything keep records, including names of collectors with addresses, etc. Good luck— — — — — —has any one ever seen the movies; the wackness, brick, igby goes down, party monster or art school conadential? From the list you mention I have only seen two: Igby goes down and Art School Confidential. Both movies were great!— — — — — —what is best to form or a martial art school out of your home a LLC ?You may as well operate as a sole propietor since you are doing it in your home. Becoming a Limited Liability Corp will not do anything for you except give a few tax breaks. The purpose of forming an LLC is to protect your personal assets if you are every sued or have to file for Chapter 11 or 13. If your business is operated out of your home no matter what compant formation you take you will lose it if you are ever sued. Also if your home is not zoned correctly and you file for an LLC you will be denied as well as shut down by your local city. To operate a business of this nature out of your home your residence has to be zoned as residential/commercial or it is actually illegal to do so.— — — — — —Do I have potential as an artist, and how do I sell art?Hello, I think your work is pretty good. Your measurement (drawing proportions) is pretty good, and you are definitely getting to the point where you could be able to sell work, but I suggest practicing a lot more to obtain a skill level that could compete with professionals, or those who actually do sell their artwork for a living. Selling art is hard enough as is. If your work lacks technical proficiency and if it does not look professional enough, most people are not going to buy anything. That's not to say that everything you sell has to look extremely detailed and showcase all your technical skills. Basically though, since art skills translate across the board to all styles of drawing (stylistic, realistic, abstract etc.) your work, regardless of the limit of scope in a particular style, should adequately showcase your ability in the related fundamentals. Like for example, if you are doing something abstract and playing with color, the color choice could be chosen according to a good knowledge of color theory. What I see in your work is a taste that is still being developed. And the technical skill could be amped up as well. The reason I say this is because your work does not identify as your own unique style quite yet. The watercolor dripping thing is a very common art idea that for some reason everyone loves. xD The celebrity pencil drawings also do not seem to identify as uniquely created either. Originality does not actually exist, but it would serve you well to find out about the common "cliches" so to speak that artists employ a lot and then try to do something different. If you like the idea, you could take an element from it, But if a common idea is used a lot, your work will never become very distinguishable from the masses' unless there is some sort of twist that you personally put on things you see and learn about. Originality counts a lot for sales, so its very relevant just as well. Think about it, you only really buy things if they compel you (either through originality or some other stand-out factor) right? This is manifold more important for art just because art is just not a necessity for a lot of people I would suggest trying pencil drawing without any smearing (so try to build up graduation and smoothness with pencil only) and try some other mediums besides pencil and watercolor as well. (Like pen, pastels, paints, etc.) If the work on your DA account is representative of your work as a whole, I would suggest widening your perspective, you know what I mean? Go see the work other people are doing and see if you like anything better than the type of work you do now. Anything counts, the goal here is to find out about all of the other possibilities for artwork as well. I feel as if you are boxed in right now. That may not be an accurate judgement, but looking at interesting work is fun anyway. xD I also suggest doing some research on what type of artwork actually sells. Usually the people who are commissioned already have an established fan base that is eager to buy art from them. Or they could be professionals who went to art school or not and gained a high enough level of competency and vision that their work sold. It's not the easiest thing. lol I really suggest not focusing on selling your art at this stage and instead improving your artwork. If your artwork is good enough, people would willingly buy it. But now is not the time, unless you have some sort of an audience of friends or family who would buy your work. Entrancing strangers with your creative ingenuity is a whole 'nother monster though. xD
Very Briefly: the Threat of Ocean Plastic Pollution
Very Briefly: the Threat of Ocean Plastic Pollution
Since 1950, plastic has revolutionized numerous aspects of modern society: packaging, clothing, disposable bags, electronic products, medical instruments, industrial materials, among many. Plastic is found everywhere in our daily lives. This new material, as malleable as stainless, quickly became indispensable for our time.Attractive and practical, plastic sees its global production increase exponentially to reach the staggering figures of more than 320 million tons (Mt) of plastic produced in 2017. At this rate, production will reach 622 Mt by 2034. In other words, within 15 years, the same amount of plastic will be produced as has been accumulated since 1950.It is estimated that 8,300 Mt of virgin plastic have been produced to date, generating about 6,300 Mt of plastic waste, of which about 9% has been recycled, 12% incinerated and 79% accumulated in landfills or released into the environment. If current trends in waste generation and management continue, 12,000 Mt of plastic waste will not be recycled or treated by 2050^1. As for packaging, more than 80% will never be recovered. The oceans, which are at the heart of the regulation of many land cycles, are particularly affected by this pollution. Indeed, once abandoned, plastics flow through rivers and other watercourses to the mouths of the seas. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) estimates that more than 9 Mt of plastics are dumped into the oceans each year^2, the equivalent of one garbage truck per minute. To date, the twenty most polluted rivers, in terms of plastic pollution, are mainly in Asia and generate a significant share of global marine pollution^3.Faced with this worrying reality, several scientific programs, foundations and citizen actions are taking an interest in the issue and are working to find solutions. However, the understanding of the extent of this insidious pollution and its multiple implications on living organisms has yet to be discovered^4.Once in the oceans, plastic debris is carried away from the coast by currents. It would then be easy to believe that they would disappear. In the early 2000s, the American navigator Charles Moore discovered, in the middle of the Pacific, what he called "the plastic continent". Collected by marine currents, waste accumulates in the heart of the oceans to form, what has been wrongly called, "the seventh continent"^5 .The image of a new land, composed only of huge floating debris, does not reflect the disastrous reality of the terrain. Once at sea, plastics degrade under the influence of waves, salt and sun to become particles called microplastics. The latter are present from the surface to the depths of the oceans, infiltrating the food chain. There are five areas with a high concentration of plastics: North and South Atlantic, Indian Ocean, North and South Pacific. But plastic pollution is not limited to these gigantic clusters. According to a study published in July 2016 by the University of Cadiz, Spain, 88% of the ocean surface is contaminated by plastic debris^6.Far from polluting only the coasts, where they are produced, plastics criss-cross our oceans and have an equal impact on the most remote islands. In April 2017, scientists discovered the highest density of plastics ever observed on the beaches of an uninhabited and totally isolated island in the South Pacific; the infamous island of Henderson has more than 671 plastic debris per square meter of beach. A total of 38 million plastic debris buried in the island's sand.Pervasive, microscopic and long-lasting, plastic debris have insidiously spread over the oceans, polluting all seas and coasts. Far from inoffensive, plastic debris are a real threat to all marine ecosystems, from plankton to whales, a clear and present danger.References^1 "Plastic waste is now so ubiquitous in the environment that it has been suggested as a geological indicator of the proposed Anthropocene era" Production, use, and fate of all plastics ever made, Science Advances, July 2017.^2 "Microplastics are not visible. While potential negative impacts are less obvious, their release into the oceans may also have far reaching consequences. Human health concerns are suspected through the accumulation of microplastics in the food chain and/or sorption of toxicants to plastic while traveling through the environment." Primary Microplastics in the Oceans: a Global Evaluation of Sources, IUCN, January2017.^3 "We estimate that between 1.15 and 2.41 million tons of plastic waste currently enters the ocean every year from rivers, with over 74% of emissions occurring between May and October. The top 20 polluting rivers, mostly located in Asia, account for 67% of the global total." River plastic emissions to the world's oceans, Nature Communications, June 2017.^4 "Because of its longevity, ubiquity, and sheer volume, plastic debris is now emerging as a new, truly global challenge. It is estimated that some plastic products retain their original recognizable form 400 years after discharge into the ocean." Stemming the tide : land-based strategies for a plastic free ocean, McKinsey Center for Business & Environment, September 2015.^5 "Since the introduction of plastic materials in the 1950s, the global production of plastic has increased rapidly and will continue in the coming decades. However, the abundance and the distribution of plastic debris in the open ocean are still unknown, despite evidence of affects on organisms ranging from small invertebrates to whales." Plastics debris in the open ocean, PNAS, August 2014.^6 "We provide a comprehensive analysis of the quantity and source of beach-washed plastic debris on one of the world's remotest islands. The density of debris was the highest recorded anywhere in the world, suggesting that remote islands close to oceanic plastic accumulation zones act as important sinks for some of the waste accumulated in these areas." But a banner announcing that it no longer provides plastic bags every Wednesday welcomes customers upon entering the place - this is something that is becoming increasingly common as the country wakes up to the harmful effects of plastic pollution on the environment.Something different can be seen on one of the supermarket's fresh vegetable racks.Instead of plastic, chilies, lemongrass, asparagus and other fresh produce are wrapped in banana leaves and secured together with a string made from banana trunk."We have worked internally in terms of our environmental policy for a long time," a representative of Rimping Supermarket said. "We tried other materials before, but banana leaves are easy for us since we live in a tropical country where banana leaves are abundant so supplies are infinite."The simple, yet highly relevant innovation has not been implemented on all of the shop's fresh products. The supermarket still provides plastic packaging in the area as well."The challenge is to find a way to keep the produce fresh," the representative said, adding that "some vegetables are not suitable to be wrapped in banana leaves as it becomes too humid and it doesn't retain its freshness."While banana leaf-wrapped food isn't something new in Thailand, it is unusual to see this traditional, biodegradable approach used on a large commercial scale.Banana plantations are in abundance in tropical countries like Thailand. The flexibility of the leaves makes it perfect for packaging. It's waterproof, don't leach any chemicals onto the food and once the customer is done with the packaging, the leaves are compostable, significantly reducing the need for single use plastics. An automated system sprays water on produce to ensure freshness. /CGTN PhotoElsewhere in Thailand, banning the use of plastic bags at traditional markets is still a big challenge for the Thai Government. Ranked sixth in the world for generating sea waste, Thais use an average of eight plastic bags each per day, almost 200 billion bags per year.Aware of its considerable contribution to the mountains of plastic trash floating in the oceans, Thailand's government has announced a major agreement from big retailers to stop handing out single-use plastic bags to customers from January 2020.And Rimping Supermarket's store policy can be seen as a huge step for a greener, plastic-free earth by going back to nature to find an alternative to plastic bags.Source: Banana leaves replace plastic packaging
