The Appeal of Rustic Wooden Bedframes

Whether you're looking to remodel an out-of-date bedroom or you just feel like you need a change, a rustic wooden bedframe can help you achieve the look you've been searching for. Durability and stylishness are just two of the reasons that you might want to purchase a rustic bed frame, and after you've slept in one, you might never want to use anything else!

There are many types of rustic bed frames available, and one of their charms is that they tend to be one of a kind, even the ones that are made to a certain style. Some rustic bed frames are made in a slat bed style, with flat boards forming the supports With this sort of bed, you may or may not need a box spring, depending on how the bed is designed. If you happen to be in a store that sells Amish goods, you might find a rope bed, where a criss-cross of cords woven through holes in the frame itself will support the mattress. Keep in mind that while a rope bed is lovely to look it, it will need routine tightening or your mattress will sag.

Rustic wooden furniture is typically very durable and long-lasting. With a small amount of care, your wooden frame will greatly outlast a metal one, which will bend and warp over time. You can pass your rustic bed frame on to your children as long as you remember to dust it periodically and sponge it down gently with soap and water once a year. When you buy your bed frame, find out what was used to finish it and what the preferred procedure of care is.

You should be aware of what kind of wood your bed frame is made of. Particleboard and plywood should never be used, as they are simultaneously heavy and breakable. You might find yourself favoring a bed frame made out of oak, which is durable but heavy or you might find a lighter frame made out of aromatic cedar or pine more attractive. Look for the material that suits you best, both in color and weight.

One way to make rustic furniture work for you is by combining it with aggressively modern art fixtures, something that you can do as long as there is a common underlying theme. Bleached, bare frames made out of pine logs can be accented with plain white fixtures, giving your room a clean, scrubbed look. You can also decorate the bedroom completely with rustic touches to match your new bed frame; look for wedding ring quilts to hang on the wall or drape over the bed, or cover dresser tops with handwoven scarves or shawls.

A rustic bed frame can be the main focal point of your bedroom or a complementing accent. If you are interested in a unique look for your bedroom, this is definitely one way to get it!

Going Organic with Bed Frames
The bedroom is one of the most important rooms in the home. At the end of the day, it is where we all go to get a good night's rest, and get ready for the next day. We all need a decent amount of sleep daily - have you ever been cranky from lack of sleep? Well, if it's getting a great environment to be able to unwind at the end of the day, you might want to consider your bedroom's furniture. And, with the bed being the centerpiece of the bedroom, you might want to take a look at organic beds. What's so Special about Organic Furniture? We spend a ton of our time sleeping (about a third of our lives), and therefore spend a ton of our time in the bedroom. Conventional beds, bedroom furniture, mattresses and bedding emit unhealthy synthetic gases and toxins that can accumulate in the bedroom and in the home. These chemicals can enter the body through inhalation or skin contact. Considering the time we spend in the bedroom - sleeping each night, unwinding at the end of the day, or relaxing on a weekend - it is the bedroom furniture that we are most exposed to. Think about all the toxins you would be exposed to! Babies and young children are especially vulnerable to these. Even if the body has the means to get rid some of these toxins, a lifetime of accumulation means that not all of them will be removed.Organic furniture does not give off these toxins, and using organic bedroom furniture can improve the quality of the air in one of the most important rooms in the house. Organic beds, such as the popular kinds made by skilled Amish craftsmen, are made from organic hardwoods. You could go ahead and even fit an organic mattress on to it. This allows people to improve the quality of air in the bedroom and eliminate exposure to synthetic gases and toxins. What's the Deal with Amish Furniture?Amish craftsmen are known for their skill in making furniture. This group is popularly known to adopt a very simple lifestyle, but a less known fact about them is their skill in crafts. Craftsmen from different Amish communities from all over the United States, such as Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin, among others, create masterfully-made furniture. Amish furniture, including beds, wardrobes or armoires, dressers, and other bedroom furniture, is made from 100% wood, without the use of particle boards and similar materials. The use of genuine hardwoods, such as cherry, oak, maple, and walnut, ensures the great quality of the furniture they create. Amish furniture is made-to-order, and can be customized to meet a customer's individual needs. Their works are designed for longevity, and will turn into heirlooms and antiques, considering the art and skill placed in their creation, and the sheer longevity of the pieces. Features of an Amish-Made Bed Once a customer has selected the type of wood that he or she wants their bed to be made out of, Amish craftsmen start their work. Amish beds can fit standard-sized mattresses, of course, but since they are made-to-order, can be customized to fit custom mattress sizes. Other changes that are popular with custom beds could be modifications on the headboard's size, or a higher bed frame. Footrails, which are similar to the rails to the left and right of the mattress, can also be included in a bed. Other custom options can include more bed slats installed (which can depend on what kind of mattress the customer will use), or the addition of shelves beneath the bed. These shelves can be detachable, or attached to the frame.Because Amish craftsmen infuse a lot of art in their work, Amish beds will be unique. Great attention is paid to the type of wood in each piece. Amish craftsmen's skills are passed down from generation to generation, making for a rich tradition of quality beds and bedroom furniture that is aesthetically-pleasing and very durable. As far as organic furniture goes, Amish beds are an excellent choice that any customer won't go wrong with. Other Organic Bedroom Options If you're already considering getting an organic bed, then it makes sense to get an organic mattress to partner with it. After all, if you're looking to improve air quality and have a more natural relaxing sanctuary, then an organic mattress is the way to go.An organic mattress is made with organic materials, such as organic cotton and naturally fire-resistant wool. Natural latex (which come from the sap of rubber trees) are also used. These materials make organic mattresses free from the pesticides and toxin-ridden flame retardants present in conventional mattresses. This is because standard mattresses are usually made of a core of polyurethane foam, which is a manufactured, synthetic material that is naturally flammable. Manufacturers need to use various chemicals called flame retardants to make them safe. It is these chemicals that are dangerous to health - various studies link common flame retardants such as ammonium polyphosphate, boric acid, PDBEs, melamine, and silica to various deteriorations in health.Specifically, PDBEs are linked to conditions such as behavioural changes, decreased sperm count, hearing defects, and thyroid hormone disruption. Cancer in laboratory animals has also been linked to PDBEs. Boric acid, while a relatively safe pesticide, is poisonous when accidentally ingested and can enter the bloodstream through inhalation. All these potential risks mean going organic for your mattress seems like a very easy choice to make.Quality Organic Bedroom Furniture for a Better Life Using an organic bed, mattress, and even other bedroom furniture can go a long way to improving the quality of health at home. Not only can organic furniture give off that relaxing aura of being close to nature, but they also have solid benefits by eliminating exposure to toxins that can cause unwelcome health conditions. Amish-made pieces of furniture also support the economy of the rural Midwest, as the woods harvested from states in the Upper Midwest and the skills of Amish craftsmen are used in their creation. Consumers can rest easier in their personal sanctuaries with a beautiful, unique, and healthier bed in their rooms.
Any Alternatives for a Bed Frame?
An actual frame, or a mattress? You can easily just put a mattress on the floor. If you do not have a mattress though, you may need to look into buying a futon or piling up some blankets to use as a cushion1. Can I use a waterbed headboard with a regular bed frame?yes, you can use a waterbed headboard with a regular bed frame2. I just bought a new bed and the bed frame broke ... Why won't landlord fix it?i think the landlord only fixes the place, like the door or something ether that or u have a really lazy landlord3. They also have some online sources.I want to build a Gemini space capsule frame as a bed frame for my twin granddaughters. Where can I find a basic blueprint of the capsule?.4. what is the strongest metal a bed frame can be made of?My suggestion would be to have the 4X4 post right in the corner of the frame but touching the frame. Drill a hole through the frame and screw the post to the frame through the metal and into the post with (at least) 2" lag bolts. You should also think about supporting the posts horizontally with a 2X4 joining each post to each other on at least 3 sides. This will keep the legs from spreading outwards and the bed collapsing in the centre of the posts and crashing to the floor. If you want to keep the front side open, you can get away with putting the horizontal brace across the front of the bed up high, right under the frame at the top of the posts or right on the floor at the foot of the posts5. Do I Need An Ikea Mattress For An Ikea Bed Frame?IKEA beds are smaller than regular beds. I found this out the hard way. A Full Size bed is 54x75, yet Ikea makes there Brusali frame with internal dimensions of 53 1/8 x 74 3/8. This discrepancy is just enough so that a standard box spring does not fit at ALL, and you want to kill someone in frustration6. Should I have my bed frame against a walloutlet? Not a good idea. Someone comes along and jumps on the bed, puts an undo amount of pressure on the wire where it enters the cord cap and now you do have a problem. At this point it either shorts out OR it heats up and could conceivably cause a fire. Three options. Replace the existing receptacle with a "Clock Outlet" which is recessed. Replace the existing cord cap with an after market one that lets the cord exit parallel to the wall. Kind of hard to describe. Or get an extension cord with that style of cord cap already on it. Generally speaking I do not recommend the use of extension cords except for temporary use such as a weed whacker or power tools etc. However for a clock radio, table lamp or such very low draw appliances it should not be a problem. Certainly safer than the situation you have now.7. Banged my head on the bed frame (metal), anything serious?its probably just the bruise coming out. my brother jumped off of his headboard once (pretending he was diving into a swimming pool) and he hit his head on the footboard lol. he had to have his eyelid superglued becuse they couldnt stitch near his eye (lil kids are to wriggly). just take some pain killers and you will be ok. xxx8. Sanding and finishing a bed frame?I just did this and I used a really cool metallic spray paint. You do not have to prime and its is a lot faster than using a brush. The metallic spray I used was a rustic "hammered" look, but they have lots of other colors and kinds at paint or home improvement stores. It gave my wood dresser and night stand a lot of character. If you are sticking with a solid white or black then you probably should prime and use the old bucket and brush3. What sort of pin or screw do I need to fix this bed frame? How can I remove stickers from metal bed frame?nail varnish remover - use sparingly12. do I need a box spring with this platform bed frame?Just buy a sheet of plywood to go under the mattress and that will eliminate the spaces. Cost is about $2013. I just bought a new bed and the bed frame broke ... You should be able to find a roll of a tan colored rubber mat, that can be cut to fit under the legs of your bed. This stuff is great. I keep several squares of it in my kitchen drawer to grip the lid of a hard to open jar, and to hold a mixing bowl from sliding around on the counter when I use my mixer.7. Is it a bad idea to paint a white metal bed frame?as suggested above several LIGHT coats allowing drying time and if at all possible take precautions about overspray on floors, walls etc and also allow adequate ventilation. Other wise use a good brush and apply several light coats allowing plenty of drying time and sanding lightly between coats..a fine sand paper and very light pressure wipe with a soft cloth (microfiber is good) before each coat. Good luck. ps be sure you are using paint intended for metal8. white or black bed frame?Black Bed Frame9. What if you just want a box spring and matress?Mine is just on the floor...but i cant put things under the bed so that is one downfall... otherwise no biggie12. BEDBUGS. How in the world did I get these bugs? We have not stayed at any hotel for well over 2 yrs. HELP!?Bed bugs are notorious hitch hikers. You can pick them up from a library book, new furniture or clothes that were transported in a truck that also transported infested merchandise, from visitors who live in an infested home that then visit yours, or at work. All it takes is one pregnant female to start a bed bug problem. In terms of bed bug treatment, the best approach, if you can afford it, is to call an exterminator. A recent poll showed that exterminators consider this the toughest insect to kill, often requiring 2 to 3 treatments. I usually recommend starting with a call to Service Magic (1.877.233.1145) since they pre-screen members to make sure they are licensed and insured. They provide up to 3 free quotes, an important factor when treatment costs and methods used vary. Figure a home will cost $1000 to $1500 to treat all in. Due to the high cost, many home owners decide to purchase a kit. I included a good resource for kits below as well as the general instructions. Be sure to buy a kit, or at least the combination of products that are in the kit. Buying only one spray at a local hardware or retail store will not work, it will only reduce the size of the problem. Here are the basic steps for a do it yourself bed bug treatment: 1. Dispose of all clutter.in sealed plastic bags. 2. Wash all linen in hot water followed by 20 minutes in the dryer (high heat) 3. Vacuum the mattress, box spring, bed frame and floor. Go around the baseboard and cracks with a vacuum crevice tool. Follow this with a hand steamer if you have one. 4. Use a mattress safe knock down spray to kill bed bugs and bed bug eggs. Be sure to treat the mattress, box spring, bed frame, end tables and other areas near and around the bed. Spray outside and inside any furniture. 5. Use a residual spray for longer lasting protection. Spray baseboards, in cracks and crevices. Be sure to spray everything within 10 feet of the bed. Look behind labels and particularly inside the box spring and behind and plastic corner guards. 6. Encase the mattress and box spring after the spray dries with bed bug covers 7. Steam clean carpets. Add a disinfectant to the cleaning fluid (test to make sure it does not harm carpet) Check the resource for detailed instructions and pictures. Do not skimp and only buy one spray no matter what you do, as this will not solve the problem. If you live in an apartment, all adjoining units (below, above and next door) need to be inspected. For apartment tenants, be sure to notify building management in writing so that there is a legal notification. Again, buy a kit, they are economical and put together by experts in treating bed bug problems. Best of Luck - Jeff
Where Can I Find a Bed Frame That Is Barely Off of the Floor, Like 2-3 Inches?
My sleigh bed from Bassett Furniture sits very low. About 3" off the floor and I love the look. Most sleigh beds are made that way. Platform beds are mostly all the way to the floor unless it sits on another platform in the middle.1. Whats the best kind of spray paint to paint a metal bed frame with? Most any spray paint will do fine. However, make sure that the frame is clean first. And it's always a good idea to prime before painting2. what is the strongest metal a bed frame can be made of?Titanium is one of the strongest metals, but I've never seen a bed frame made out of it. Probably steel is your best bet3. How long do you think it will take to put together a bed frame?2 to 10 for a standard cheezie one. If you have all of the correct pieces and the area is ready to be worked in without stuff all over, and the mattress and box spring out the door.4. How much would a mattress and box spring cost, minus the bed frame? Most people would pay $150 for a old used bed if they can get a new one for around $500. With $500 they are also looking at getting the frame the box spring sits on. I paid 800 for a king size with a pillow top and the frame. I would donate it to a local charity and write it off on your taxes next year.5. how to fix a box spring from falling through a bed frame?Wood Slats: wood slats are 1" thick x 3"wide and the length would be the distance from the left side of the frame rail to the right side of the frame rail, usually 4 or 5 will be enough placed around 16" apart starting at the head of the bed going down to the foot of the bed. That's the way it was done back in the day ;-)6. I have the mattress, I have a bed frame with slats, what I don't have is something to support the mattress.?A bunkie board is thick cardboard wrapped around wooden slats. They go for approximately $50.00. Measure the EXACT width of the frame and take that to your local lumber store and for $20 -$30 buy a 3/4" interior grade plywood. Or you can buy a box spring for $200 -$400.7. How much does it cost to treat a 300 sq ft apartment for bedbugs? Are there any over the counter products or natural ways to get rid of them?Heat. Research how hot and how long it needs to be but if your apartment is next to another, either side or upstairs they need to do it as well or the bugs can come back. For peace of mind I would look between your box spring and mattress, kill any bugs you see. If you see spots that look like black ink dots that is their poop, your blood. Spray the heck out of your mattress. Go get bed bug mattress covers and put them on after you pull your bed away from the wall. Get rid of your bed skirt if you have one, they hide there and under your box spring but you should cover that. Coat your bed frame legs in Vaseline and sprinkle diamaceous earth (can get at Home Depot)around your base boards and bed frame, you can dust the sides of your new covers with a dry paint brush with it too. Once you see them there is no unseeing it and it can stay with you for a long time, I still freak out around bugs. This may help you sleep at night until you get rid of them. Don't forget to completely strip your bed and wash everything in the hottest water and dry on the hottest setting possible for an hour. How much does it cost to treat a 300 sq ft apartment for bedbugs? Are there any over the counter products or natural ways to get rid of them?8. Do I Need An Ikea Mattress For An Ikea Bed Frame? When IKEA first started selling bedding in the USA they had European sizes to the mattresses that were different from the US. But in the past 2 decades they have switched to standard US sizes. So it depends on how old the IKEA bed frame is. We used to have one we bought in the 1980's and it was a little larger than a queen. But I have a 20 year old IKEA four poster now that is exact US queen (60" x 80"). The other thing you have to consider is design. Some IKEA frames have a slat base that substitutes for the box spring. You need to have a mattress with a fairly stiff core for a slat bed that you will not use a box spring with. Softer foam mattresses will not work well on these. Measure your bed frame and mattress and make sure they match, that is the only way to do it.

Rubberwood is a light-coloured medium-density tropical hardwood obtained from the Para Rubber Tree. Rubberwood is also a sustainable timber, so a rubberwood bed is an environmentally friendly choice as it makes use of plantation trees that have already served a useful function. Rubberwood is a very stable, durable material, with shrinkage and cracking kept to a minimum. Manufacturers nowadays generally opt for a tough, durable, but less expensive hardwood for the centre of the bed before adding a veneer to the surface, which creates a more expensive looking frame. These wooden beds generally have the appearance of oak or beech but are not as expensive. The veneer's thickness should always be taken into account, as thinner veneers are generally cheaper but are prone to tearing after time. Generally, the thicker the veneer, the more expensive the bed is. From Super Kingsize to Small Bed Frames, We Have it All.
